ADF Basic Flying Training School - Tamworth

Getting there

BFTS is approximately 8.8km West of Tamworth CBD at the Tamworth Regional Airport 400m from the terminal building.  The main entrance is located on Basil Brown Drive, off New Winton Road, Westdale.

This site is owned and managed by BAE Systems and rooms are leased to Defence under the Flight Screening and Basic Flying Training contract. Accommodation is only available through DHA for BFTS students and Defence personnel visiting to support BFTS operations.

Security arrangements

A valid Defence pass is required as proof of identity for issue of a BAE Systems Facility Pass which is to be displayed whilst on-site. The BAE Systems pass is obtained from BAE Systems Reception located in the Administration building.

Follow ADF BFTS Course Joining Instructions

Visitors arriving on the civil apron
Exit the terminal building, turn left onto Shand Circuit, then turn right at the roundabout and proceed to the yellow car park security box by gate, press the intercom button and follow instructions to obtain your Pass.

Visitors arriving on the BAE Systems apron
Report to the Operations section on arrival. 

Room information

Rooms are initially provisioned with soap, toilet paper and 2 bath towels. Bath towels are replenished twice weekly, sheets are replaced weekly. Students are required to clean their own rooms. Visitor rooms are serviced daily. For further information about your room, contact the BAE Accommodation Services Officer . It is essential that you are aware of your LIA obligations in accordance with PACMAN, Annex 7.3.A: Licence to Live In.

Key collection and returns

  • Key collection after 2pm.
  • Key collection and return to be arranged with BAE Accommodation Services Officer two business days prior to arrival.
  • Student key collection and return follow directions in ADF BFTS Course Joining Instructions.
  • Visitor key collection & return to BAE Systems reception.
  • Rooms are to be vacated by 10am.

Lost keys
Lost keys must be notified to Residential reception immediately, a cost will be incurred for replacement.
