Award-winning developer, Defence Housing Australia (DHA), today celebrated the start of construction of a new residential development at Edmondson Park.
The development, called ‘Victoria Rise’ in honour of Victoria Cross winner John Edmondson, will comprise 102 land lots. Sixty-two will be sold to the general public with the remaining 40 to host three and four bedroom homes for Defence members posted to nearby Holsworthy Barracks.
Located approximately 40 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD, Edmondson Park is within walking distance to the train station, serviced by the South West Rail Link, and the new town centre offering an array of shopping, dining and entertainment facilities.
DHA Acting Managing Director, Jan Mason, said, ‘Edmondson Park is set to become Sydney’s newest regional centre, where both future residents and Defence families will benefit from this convenient location.’
Edmondson Park has strong historical military links dating back to World War II. The suburb was named after John Edmondson, a local boy, who won the Victoria Cross medal for bravery in World War II. Sadly, the medal was awarded posthumously after he was killed in action. The suburb was also home to the former Ingleburn Army camp site, the first purpose-built camp used to train Australian infantry in World War II.
In honour of the suburbs strong Defence links, the project has been given the name ‘Victoria Rise’ as a small acknowledgement of the events that unfolded more than 50 years ago.
‘Edmondson Park is rich in Defence history and the Victoria Rise development will play an important role in the creation of a distinctive, vibrant community while keeping its Defence ties,’ Ms Mason said.
Defence members and their families will be able to move into the new homes in late 2017 while the first land release will be made available for sale to the public over the coming months.
