Local children gathered this morning to help officially open a 4990m² water play park at Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) development Breezes Muirhead in Darwin’s northern suburbs.
DHA and Investa Land are delivering Breezes Muirhead on a 170 hectare site, 14 kilometres north of Darwin CBD. With a park situated within 400 metres of every home, 20 per cent of the award-winning community is allocated to open green space.
The new water play park will engage children in active play, with water-wheels, dams, switches and pumps demonstrating water management. Water will wind its way through a reproduction creek bed, before draining into the park’s landscaping. The park will also include a large area of open green space, perfect for ball games and family picnics.

The water play park is one of four community parks within Breezes Muirhead which range in size from 5,000 to18,600m² and each cater to a different age group. Large parks cater for neighbourhood sports games and smaller parks provide tranquil places to relax.

Within the development, Ted Rowe Park is a 1.6 hectare park designed to encourage older children in active play. It features a half sized basketball/netball court, rugby and Aussie rules goal posts, a bicycle loop trail and fitness equipment, as well as a large informal kick about space. The Juliet Shields Park provides shady areas for picnics, open green space for ball games and an adventure playground and the William Forster Park covers more than two hectares and is surrounded by established native trees and bushland. It incorporates an expansive playground with a giant 12 metre climbing net and construction is underway on an interpretative cultural trail which will engage residents with Australia’s Indigenous history and culture.
In addition to its community parks, Breezes Muirhead also features more than five kilometres of walking and cycling trails and ‘pocket parks’ for informal use by local residents..
More than 85 per cent of land lots at Breezes Muirhead have now sold. Acreage land is available in the Euros and Caver neighbourhoods, ranging from 3,990m² to 5,980m² and priced from $600,000.
