02 February 2015 Victoria Cross recipients honoured with opening of first completed apartments at Crimson Hill

On Saturday 31 January, two great nephews of one of Australia's finest war heroes attended a special Open Day to celebrate the completion of new apartments in his memory.

Tubb's View - named after Major Frederick Tubb who received the Victoria Cross in 1915 for his leadership and bravery during the Battle of Lone Pine - was one of the first apartment buildings to be completed at our award-winning residential development, Crimson Hill.

Hamilton Corner, named after Lieutenant John Hamilton – a recipient of the Victoria Cross in 1915 for his ‘coolness and daring example’ during the Battle of Lone Pine – has also been completed. An apartment in Hamilton’s Corner was open to the public for the first time at the Open Day.

The great nephews of Frederick Tubb, Allan and Neil Tubb, flew from their Euroa home in Victoria over the weekend to join Paul Fletcher MP, Member for Bradfield, Jennifer Anderson, Ku-ring-gai Council Mayor, DHA representatives, new residents and neighbours, for their first glimpse of the new apartment buildings.

Allan and Neil Tubb never met their great uncle, but his courage has formed a key part of their family story.

Allan said ‘Four out of five brothers in our family served in the First World War, we are incredibly humbled to be part of such an historic past. We are honoured to share this intimate part of our family history with young Australians, and to carry on the memory of our fine soldiers,’ he said.

DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said the Open Day was a great way to celebrate the first homes for the new community, and to share the project’s commitment to design excellence with residents and community alike.

‘Crimson Hill is a very special project, and it’s very timely that in this year of the Centenary of Gallipoli, we’re able to recognise these men who have formed an integral part of our nation’s history. Today is the first chance the community has had to see the finished product and get a real sense of the community and lifestyle we’ve created here,’ he said.

The next major community milestone to be held at Crimson Hill will be commemorating the Battle of Lone Pine on 5 August 2015.
