24 November 2014 Breezes Muirhead community raises money for sick kids

The Breezes Muirhead community has raised $9,000 for Royal Darwin Hospital at its annual Family Fun Day, enabling the Hospital to purchase a state-of-the-art portable ultrasound for its Paediatrics Ward.

The ultrasound is named ‘Accuvein’ because it assists medical staff to accurately find a suitable vein in which to place a cannula or to collect a blood sample, without touching the patient.

'It is thanks to Breezes Muirhead that our Paediatrics Ward will be the first ward at Royal Darwin Hospital to own an Accuvein, which will make such a positive difference to the children’s experience of hospital,” said Christine Dennis, Chief Operating Officer, Royal Darwin Hospital.

'The Accuvein will undoubtedly reduce the stress and pain of multiple attempts at cannulation for many of our young patients,” she said.

The annual Family Fun Day, which was attended by more than 2,000 people, is a great opportunity for the community to come together.

Contributions to the fundraising were also made by Breezes Muirhead’s Display Village partner builders; About Homes, Kassiou Homes, Killarney Homes, Matrix Homes Saroukos Homes, The House Factory and Investa Land.

Breezes Muirhead, which is being delivered by Defence Housing Australia and Investa Land, is a sought-after new residential community situated 14 kilometres north of Darwin’s CBD

'Residents, builders and families in the process of building their home at Breezes Muirhead participated in this popular community event and contributed to a fabulous outcome for our local Hospital,” said Paul Perkovic, Project Director NT, Investa Land.

'This was one of several events that we hold at Breezes Muirhead each year to provide the opportunity for residents to meet their neighbours and foster a sense of community. The high attendance at this year’s Family Fun Day and the attendees’ eagerness to support the fundraising initiatives demonstrate that community spirit is already strong,' Mr Perkovic said.

Breezes Muirhead has set a new standard for residential development in the Top End. Its commitment to sustainability includes the provision of more than 20 hectares of open green space. This includes several large community parks with adventure playgrounds, cycle ways, walking paths and barbeque facilities. Every home will be situated within 400 metres of a park.
