16 September 2014 Breaking ground on green homes at Warner Lakes The Reserve

Award-winning developer, Defence Housing Australia (DHA), today celebrated the start of construction on 47 low-emission homes at its northern Brisbane residential development, Warner Lakes The Reserve.

DHA Managing Director, Mr Peter Howman said the homes would set a new benchmark in environmentally-sensitive design, while ensuring a consistent supply of accommodation for local Defence members and their families who will start moving in by mid next year.

‘Providing appealing family homes, in quality neighbourhoods, is critical if our Defence forces are to attract and retain skilled personnel,’ said Mr Howman.

‘Brisbane is an important centre for Defence operations, with a great lifestyle and an improving property market, which makes it an ideal location for investors too.’

Overlooking tranquil Lake Reflections, Warner Lakes The Reserve will comprise 465 residences. DHA will build 130 properties for Defence members and their families, with the remaining land lots sold to the public.

The development also incorporates an attractive conservation corridor (a special area to preserve native flora and fauna species) and has achieved the highest level of accreditation from the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s (UDIA) EnviroDevelopment program.

This environmental commitment is backed by stringent targets across all aspects of the development. Sixty percent of building and construction waste will be re-used or recycled, while carefully-crafted design guidelines for all new homes will ensure the community achieves a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas production.

‘We set out to build award-winning communities that are attractive to Defence members, investors and the wider community – both now and in the future,’ Mr Howman said. ‘With the support of our industry partners, we are continuing to push the boundaries on quality, innovation and efficiency.’

The new DHA homes feature three and four-bedroom contemporary floor plans, low-emission building products and energy-efficient lighting and appliances. Light roof colours have been selected to minimise heat retention and to reduce the need to turn on air conditioners. The community is connected to natural gas and DHA homes will be fitted with gas stoves and hot water systems.

The Land Sales Office at 24 Como Circuit, Warner, is open daily from 10am to 5pm or visit the community online at warnerlakesthereserve.com.au
