Zombies, mummies, ghosts and vampires descended upon Wirraway Park in Thornton last night at the Halloween Movie Night raising money for Camp Quality.

Hosted by award-winning developer Defence Housing Australia, neighbours from near and far gathered for an extraordinary night of fun, food and family entertainment.

Local kids, and adults too, arrived in spooky costumes and completed their transition into unearthly creatures thanks to the talented face painters. With so many haunting outfits appearing on the night, the contest for best dressed was highly competitive and the judges found it challenging to limit it to only six awards!

Before the sun started to set, lollies were handed out to eager recipients and the jumping castle proved to be popular for exerting sugar-driven energy.

Tummies were full thanks to Camp Quality’s barbeque, with over $1,000 raised to help sick kids. Upon sunset, buckets of popcorn were handed out before everyone settled in on their picnic blanket under the stars to watch Hotel Transylvania on the open-air cinema.

A frighteningly good time was had by over 300 attendees, including local Wirraway resident Mark who dressed up as a skeleton and brought along his family.

‘We had the event scheduled in the family calendar, the kids were really excited, and it’s great to have local events to look forward to,’ said Mark.

‘It’s great to see even more families getting into the spirit of Halloween and dressing up—I’ve never seen this many people together in the park at once!’

‘Everyone was mingling with their neighbours, and even people who live outside of Wirraway joined in the fun too,’ said local Wirraway resident Sue. ‘The feeling of community is one of the main reasons we live here and we love these events.’

Family events at Wirraway have become a highlight of the local social calendar—with last night’s Halloween event following on from the success of the previous year.

Wirraway in Thornton is a thriving community just 25 minutes from Newcastle. With only six blocks left for sale, it’s the final opportunity to build in the last stage of the community. Visit www.wirrawaythornton.com.au for further information.
