Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) partnership with Darwin builder PTM Group has seen its leading residential development in Darwin, Breezes Muirhead, take out top honours at the premier building industry awards.
The Master Builders Association held its national awards in Canberra last week, with the development winning the award for best medium-density project over five dwellings. DHA engaged the local company to build 20 new houses at Breezes.
‘DHA is proud to work with small businesses all across the country to build outstanding homes for Defence members and their families,’ DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said. ‘We build in a variety of locations and we always partner with local businesses, most of them small to medium size businesses. In Darwin we have teamed with PTM Group to build some truly remarkable homes that not only suit the lifestyle of the area, but will also stand the test of time.’
The architecturally-designed homes, which were designed by DKO architects, feature modern, innovative floor plans and street facades suiting Darwin’s tropical lifestyle. In awarding PTM Group it was noted that, ‘PTM made notable efforts to improve energy efficiency by using effective materials and design principles. With large overhangs, sun screens and correct orientation these houses average an energy star rating of 6.7, with the highest being 8.2’.
‘This award is validation of the partnership between DHA and the building industry. It signifies the direction that DHA, is taking its developments, and in turn the direction we are hoping to take the construction industry. We pride ourselves on being innovative, and creating communities to suit the local environment. Nowhere is this more important than in the Top End.’
