16 April 2018 Homes for heroes nearing completion

Upgrade works at Seaward Village, housing Australian Defence Force members at Campbell Barracks, Western Australia, are well underway with 58 houses in stage one nearing completion.

Housing allocation will be finalised and over the next two weeks ADF members will learn the location of their new homes at Seaward Village, with residents likely to be moving in next month.

Stage two, comprising work on 43 homes, is expected to commence in July 2018.

Residents’ allocation and move dates for homes in Stage two of the upgrade project will be finalised in April and May.

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) Managing Director, Jan Mason, said today the views of the local community would continue to be prioritised as work proceeded.

‘Our goal continues to be keeping the connection between Seaward Village and meeting the needs of Defence, Defence members and Swanbourne residents.

‘As in all our projects, our priority is the security and welfare of Defence members and their families – and we will continue to complete the necessary work with minimum disruption to local residents.’

Parliamentary approval for the upgrade works was granted in June 2017. Works commenced in Seaward Village in October 2017.

The three stage approach allows for work to be contained in one area of the village at a time, minimising disruption to all residents.

The upgrade works are specific to each house, however they generally comprise full internal and external refurbishment including:

  • General internal works
  • Floor and window coverings
  • New fixtures and fittings
  • New heating/cooling system
  • Painting
  • Detailed individual room works
  • New kitchen, bathroom and laundry works
  • Garage works
  • Roof and plumbing works
  • General external works
  • Landscaping works

Additionally, 16 selected dwellings will undergo internal floor plan reconfiguration, and 27 dwellings will receive an extension. The estimated cost of the project is $48.3 million over a three years period.
