22 July 2013 DHA to invest more than $115 million in two Brisbane developments

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) will expand its residential development operations in Queensland with the approval of two new developments in Brisbane.

The developments, which have a combined value of more than $115 million, were recently approved by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works (PWC) and are vital to providing housing for Defence members and their families.

“Our new developments at Warner and Samford Road signify our commitment to providing quality housing for our Defence members and their families in Queensland,” DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said. “These two developments, while serving a common purpose in providing housing for Defence families resident in Brisbane, are vastly different in nature.”

The Warner development is a traditional greenfield land development targeted at young families who generally commute south to the Brisbane CBD or Gallipoli Barracks for work. It will provide a number of parks and open spaces, with an adjacent established lake area.

“A 17.4ha conservation corridor adjoins the site and serves to protect local fauna,” Mr Howman said. “DHA will be implementing a specific education package titled, Lifestyle Guidelines to be issued to all new residents.”

The Samford Road development, on the other hand, is an urban infill site that will involve the demolition of seven, two-storey brick and weatherboard townhouses that are dated and not up to DHA’s high standards. In their place DHA will build seven new townhouses and 48 apartments.

“We have worked closely with Brisbane City Council to get this project right. It is an excellent location, next door to Gallipoli Barracks, with both bus and railway transport at its doorstep.”

Construction on these developments is expected to start early next year with the first dwellings to be completed in 2015.
