05 June 2013 DHA signs-up to a decade of military service

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is today celebrating an extension to its agreement to provide homes for Defence members.

DHA have provided housing and related services to Defence members and their families since 1988. Under the terms of the extension the Department of Defence (Defence) have agreed to continue this arrangement through to at least 2023.

“We are incredibly proud of the services that we provide to Defence,” DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said.

We play a vital role in ensuring that Defence members and their families are provided a stable, suitable home environment that meets both their professional and personal needs. This helps to ensure both mobility and retention within the Defence forces.”

Defence’s decision to extend its agreement with DHA took into account the findings of a major review of the agreement as well as DHA’s management and delivery of quality housing and related services. Defence’s review found that DHA’s performance was positive and had notably improved in the last two years.

DHA continues to grow and change in line with the needs of Defence members,” Mr Howman said.

“We have worked very hard to provide more than just houses to Defence members. Our portfolio now includes properties that are energy efficient, properties that are designed and built for their environment, and properties surrounded by community facilities for families to enjoy.”

DHA currently has a portfolio of more than 19,000 properties Australia-wide worth more than $10 billion, but is continuing to improve that stock with an extensive residential development program.

“We are an award-winning residential developer focussed on providing high-quality and sustainable housing,” he said. “We will continue to do this, and improve on this, over the next 10 years.”

DHA’s primary function is to supply housing and related services to Defence members and their families in line with Defence operational requirements.
